Work Package 6: Proof of Concept Prototyping

Work Package Description:
The main goal for WP6 is the manufacture of real components utilising the materials and processes developed in the previous work packages to demonstrate the feasibility of manufacturing processes. Specific objective for this WP is manufacturing the designed components according to geometries and load requirements defined in WP1 in the different materials and manufacturing processes identified in WP2 and WP3.
 
Five demonstrator components will be created reflecting (1) the key components needed to validate the weight savings for the FEV BiW concept addressed in WP1 and, (2) to showcase and highlight the specific individual materials and joining technologies (and combinations thereof) and structures developed in the preceding WPs and their application to components encompassing ‘simple’ composite based components (Demonstrator 1) to deeply hybridised components (Demonstrator 5).
 
These demonstrator components are as follows:
 
  • Demonstrator 1 - Optimised Existing Crash Cross Beam
  • Demonstrator 2 - Suspension Sub Frame
  • Demonstrator 3 - Metal Based Structural Component
  • Demonstrator 4 - Full Side Door
  • Demonstrator 5 - Lower Body with Integrated Battery Pack Holder
 
To demonstrate the extent of the weight savings, the equivalent mass of the demonstrator components produced, and estimated in section 1.2 of this projectl, will be calculated by comparing new components prototyped in this WP to the previously existing ones.
